Boy this new blogger is slow...

Anyhow, I've experienced some neat little deja vu recently...

First, I picked up a couple of albums from the Get Up Kids at the used cd store, and have been enjoying them immensely. Why is this deja vu you ask? Well, it's just that I have this rather vague memory of going to their show at Union South many years ago and being utterly underwhelmed by them. I can't even recall whether I was in high school or college at the time, but obviously they were not my cup of tea back then. It shouldn't be a surprise that I'm into them now though, seeing as I'm such a fan of The Anniversary.

Going even farther into my past, I've gone back to doodling maps with sweeping arrows depicting breakthroughs and double envelopments and kessels, like I used to draw back in.... oh elementary through middle school. Why would I do this? I just got my copy of A Victory Lost and it has got me feeling the same sort of excitement that I experienced on first playing board wargames. It's such a simple system rules-wise, and yet it has both a depth of strategy, and an authenticity of style ... one feels like one is sitting in Heeresgruppe Sud headquarters pouring over maps of the front and reports coming in from the kampfgruppen at the front. And this is just from putzing around with it solitaire a bit. I can't wait to play against a real opponent!
Nooooooooo!!!!! *EXPLETIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*

[I accidentally switched to the new blogger :(]

I wonder whether this is a common experience for people or whether it's just because of how my mind organizes information. Using GoogleEarth to view places that I have visited or been to allows me to remember an eerily large amount about that place... strange that viewing a location from a top down perspective that I have never actually seen jogs my memory enough to generate images in my mind of the first person perspective standing in the location.

While it's taking longer to describe this trip than it took to take it, here's the first real day in France... January 12th.

And for those who missed it... the 11th too.

As usual, this is best only viewed in Firefox, and will probably look like crap in IE. Also, best with a screen resolution of at least 1024x768 pixels.
For those of you who don't have the pleasure of living in Madison, I pity you this weekend, for the sole reason that it means you were unable to eat anything from the Glass Nickel. Fried chicken on a pizza = sheer brilliance!
